Her style, even her glazes are modestly influenced by these ancestral traditions.

What inspires her in these creations?: “simplicity, textures and contrasts found in forests, on rocks, in bubbling springs...”.

The craft used for these bowls makes each one completely unique so colour gradients and format will vary from one to another. The true beauty of artisanal work.

Laval ceramist Catherine De Abreu advocates a contemporary approach to the objects she creates.  As she prepares her ceramic's third firing, the artist lays out laser decals that will add her object's undeniable signature: the jellyfish.  Why this creature? "There is no specific reason ... I find this marine specimen fascinating, it's seducing simply by its beauty."

The final result, as a whole, feels quite organic thanks to the contrast of the material and random application of jellyfishes, but also by the sharp visual precision of the grey and white.

The craftsmanship behind these cups is what makes them unique as the colour gradient and intensity varies from one object to the other. Think of it as the yardstick of what handmade looks like.

She always keeps functionality as a prime objective to move forward in her craft. It takes moves and gestures that have been repeated thousands of times to produce such well-balanced pieces for everyday use : “ Through the objects I create, I hope to bring out meaning and consciousness in the small gestures surrounding them, transforming common use in a comforting ritual.” Often found travelling and adventuring abroad, her returns to home soil are always buzzing with activity as her pieces are very sough after.

An inspiring artist who’s evolution through time we will gladly follow.

It was in a teahouse in Japan that the potter Julie Lavoie discovered Tenmoku. On seeing the works of Kamada Koji for the first time, she was inspired by the 'starry skies' effect, unique to this glaze. Like a premonition, this idea of meteors had already appeared in her work before this journey.

Tenmoku is a glaze that reacts a lot to the temperature and firing time. Consequently it requires much patience and skill on the part of the artist.

The artisanal aspect of these cups makes them all unique. This why the shape and capacity may vary from one to another. Think of it as a guarantee of unique pieces, all made by hand!

Taiwanese potter Lin Jianhong specializes in the creation of velvety smooth celadon glazes, like the one wrapping this cup.

Mr Lin uses a glaze named Ru Yao, a type of celadon developed during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). His pieces are fired in a gas kiln reaching temperatures around 1250° Celsius, giving them this unique look.

Under their thick light blue coat, little spots of “raw” clay make a pleasing contrast to both eyes and fingers.
